PainChek has bolstered its commercial team with new appointments expected to drive growth across the healthcare sector in Australia and New Zealand.

As part of its drive to expand into the ANZ residential aged care, hospital, disability, palliative and home care sectors, PainChek has recruited a Senior Commercial Manager and registered pharmacist to grow awareness and adoption of its digital pain assessment technology.

PainChek is the world’s first regulatory-cleared medical device for the assessment of pain.

With over 13 years’ experience in the healthcare sector, Christelle Ucinek joins PainChek from Medi-Map, the SaaS electronic medication management provider, where she was General Manager and the company’s very first employee in Australia. In her role, she helped to drive MediMap’s growth across the Australian healthcare sector including working with the government and the Australian Digital Health Agency, paving the way for MediMap’s eNRMC compliance.

As a pharmacist, Ucinek has both community and hospital experience as well as holding roles specialising across aged care and disability sectors.

“We are delighted to welcome an individual of Ucinek’s calibre and experience to the team. Her proven track record in business development is complemented by her in-depth understanding of the healthcare and pharmacy sectors, making her the ideal candidate for driving PainChek’s expansion in the ANZ market,” said Head of Business Development David Allsopp.

“The need for PainChek as a best-practice pain management solution extends to older people living at home and with access to home care packages that enable long-term home living. These populations include people living with dementia, suffering multiple chronic pain conditions, as well as those with sensory, cognitive, and mental health impairments,” said Ucinek.

She said the company was to be partnering with home care and disability service providers to empower carers and relatives to assess and document pain levels at the point of care, supporting them to better manage and care for their resident or loved one at home.”

“I am really excited to join PainChek at what is a pivotal time of growth and development for the company. PainChek is revolutionising the way we assess pain for all individuals and truly making a difference to the quality of life of people living with pain, especially those living with a cognitive impairment. From my experience in digital health, medication management and as a pharmacist, I can see the benefits that PainChek’s person-centred approach can bring to the broader healthcare sector, including disability, hospital, palliative and home care,” said Ucinek.

“In addition, PainChek is well placed to benefit rural and remote communities where, due to distance and workforce limitations, the use of technology can improve timely access to care and promote appropriate intervention and improved quality of life. In my new role, I am looking forward to continuing to challenge the way the healthcare sector thinks about pain, with the ultimate goal of having PainChek recognised as the new gold standard for pain management.”

In Australia and New Zealand, PainChek licences cover 59,000 beds across 750 aged care facilities, representing approximately 30 percent of the sector.

PainChek currently has agreements with Perth-based Brightwater Disability Group Homes, Nurse Maude Hospital in New Zealand, and a number of home care providers in the ANZ region. Two research projects are also underway at the Hollywood Private Hospital (WA) to assess the effectiveness of PainChek in improving pain assessment for hospitalised older adults.
