Win for Arvida Park Lane

Arvida Park Lane, a retirement community located in Addington, Christchurch, recently achieved significant recognition at the Retirement Villages Association (RVA) Sustainability Awards 2024, held in Wellington. The community was honoured with two prestigious awards that highlight its commitment to sustainability and resident involvement.

Firstly, Arvida Park Lane won the Resident-led Gardening and Landscaping Award. This accolade acknowledges the active role residents play in designing and maintaining the community’s garden areas. Resident working groups are deeply involved in various aspects of garden management, including improving soil conditions, sourcing new plants, and organising garden working bees. This hands-on approach not only enhances the community’s green spaces but also fosters a strong sense of ownership and engagement among the residents.

Additionally, the community received the Operator-led Sustainability Award for its innovative electric vehicle and solar charging project. This initiative includes solar panels installed on the roof of their four-story building, which power 15 electric vehicle charging stations within the community. Residents can conveniently manage their vehicle usage through an app, allowing them to select the time and day they need a vehicle and view available options for booking.

Arveen Horsefield, Arvida’s Head of Sustainability and Compliance, expressed pride in the recognition, commenting, “It's wonderful to see Arvida being recognised for efforts in sustainability. We realise that our residents are the most engaged in sustainability, and it's an important part of our strategy to enable our residents to live a sustainable lifestyle.”

This acknowledgment underscores Arvida Park Lane’s dedication to fostering an environmentally conscious and participatory community.
