Once in a Generation Opportunity
AUSTRALIA | The Government is now diligently considering the extensive and invaluable feedback received, with the aim of refining and finalising the draft legislation before its introduction to Parliament.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the older people, their families, carers, workers, advocates, and aged care providers who generously shared their feedback on the draft new Aged Care Act," said Hon Anika Wells, MP.

"We heard resounding feedback emphasising that the proposed new Aged Care Act presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for systemic reform, and it's imperative that we get it right," she added.

Hon. Wells assured Australians that the Government is committed to transparency and will provide updates on the legislation's commencement date before it is introduced to the Parliament.

She highlighted the new Act's significance and its role as a crucial milestone in the Albanese Government's mission to elevate the standard of aged care in Australia and provide high-quality, person-centred service.

The Government is firmly committed to collaboration and pledges to work closely with all members of Parliament to implement these reforms effectively.
Reflecting on the Government's achievements, Hon Anika Wells, MP, highlighted the fulfilment of five aged care election commitments, including 24/7 nursing, a record $11.3 billion pay rise for aged care workers, and increased transparency through Dollars to Care.

Moreover, she emphasised the Government's proactive approach to addressing 69 Royal Commission recommendations, which resulted in tangible improvements. Since the election of the Albanese Government, older Australians have benefitted from an additional 2.16 million care minutes every day.

"We are witnessing a reduction in pressure injuries, physical restraints, significant unplanned weight loss, and falls. Additionally, there are evident improvements in the Star Ratings data, with fewer 1 and 2-star ratings and more 4 and 5-star ratings," concluded Hon Anika Wells, MP.
