Daphne Eva Celebrates a Century

Imagine experiencing the roaring twenties, the swinging sixties, the greedy eighties, AND the latest Artificial Intelligence advances – well, Daphne has!

Daphne Eva celebrated a century on Monday, May 1st. Family and friends joined in honouring one hundred years of experiences and memories in her home at Radius St. Helenas in Christchurch. Daphne was born in 1923 when William Massey was the Prime Minister. A hundred years and 21 Prime Ministers later, she’s still smiling.

She was born in Essex, England and moved to New Zealand in 1970. She worked for years as a skilled and successful dressmaker.

As Daphne is now partially blind, the caring Radius St. Helenas staff hired a musician to play her favourite music. She thoroughly enjoyed listening to the songs and even showed off some of her moves, dancing with one of the staff members.

Daphne received special birthday cards from King Charles, Aotearoa’s Prime Minister and the local Christchurch Mayor - what a celebrity! When staff tried to ask some more questions about her life Daphne just wanted to know when her birthday cake was arriving – a real foodie, in other words! She spent the first day as a centenarian with her son John enjoying high tea, happy hour drinks and not one – but two – birthday cakes!

Happy Birthday, Daphne!
