COVID-19 | 8 November Update

Auckland retail businesses can breathe a sigh of relief as Jacinda Ardern confirmed Cabinet’s decision to move the region to Level 3, Step 2 from 11.59pm tomorrow (Tues 9 November).

Retail shops will open and gatherings of up to 25 people can happen outside. Hospitality, Gyms and venues such as movie theatres will remain closed.

Ardern said the move captures the transition phase we're in now. Auckland has "increasingly high" vaccination rates. The region hit 90 percent first dose and 80 percent second dose at the weekend. They are "easing into our reopening" as vaccination rates get higher, she said.

Cabinet will make further alert level decisions on Monday, November 15.

Current projections show Auckland is on track to reach 90 per cent fully vaccinated this month. The region is likely to move into the new traffic light system after the November 29 check-in by Cabinet.

Northland will move back to Level 2 at 11.59pm Thursday, November 11.
