AUSTRALIA | The Medical Research Future Fund has opened two grant opportunities to explore stem cell therapies, and dementia and aged care.
Applications have opened for two new Medical Research Future Fund grant opportunities to support stem cell therapies, dementia and aged care.
The Medical Research Future Fund has pledged AUD $55.8 million for research into stem cell therapies, dementia, ageing and aged care.
The 2025 Stem Cell Therapies grant opportunity will provide up to AUD $31.5 million for early-stage clinical trials that generate evidence on the safety and efficacy of new stem cell therapies. It will also support research that improves our understanding of stem cell-based therapies, to build community trust, acceptance and adoption.
Funding is from the Stem Cell Therapies Mission conducted by the Medical Research Future Fund.
The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Stem Cell Therapies Mission has aimed to support world-leading translational stem cell research that develops and delivers innovative, safe and effective stem cell medicines to improve health outcomes, in partnership with patients and carers.
The Medical Research Future Fund has specified that the funding should result in exploratory (pilot) studies to assist the design of clinical studies that will evaluate the safety and preliminary efficacy of novel stem cell–based treatments.
Up to $24.3 million is available under the 2025 Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care grant opportunity for projects that improve the uptake of prevention activities by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, rural, regional and remote populations and culturally and linguistically diverse people.
The funding has been allocated to provide research to develop an understanding of the barriers, enablers, impact and adoption of high-quality care for older Australians.
The Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care Mission of the Future Fund has provided the financial support for this study opportunity.
