Positive COVID Test for Worker at Auckland Facility

A worker at an Auckland aged care facility has tested positive for COVID-19.

Residents and staff at the Ellerslie Gardens Aged Residential Care facility were being tested on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health said in a statement. The privately owned rest home also dealt with a COVID-19 outbreak in April 2020, with at least eight residents testing positive.

That outbreak resulted in parent company Heritage Lifecare chief executive Norah Barlow pleading with the Government for more financial help amid skyrocketing costs due to the pandemic. Among those costs were the extra protective equipment, extra payments to staff, increased resourcing for sick patients and additional equipment.
