Is Santa a COVID-19 Super-spreader

Santa’s visit could be the connection to a care home in Belgium where there has been a mass spreading of COVID-19. Since the visit to the Hemelrijck care home in Mol, in the province of Antwerp, 61 residents and 14 staff have tested positive for the virus.

The man dressed as Santa had visited the home to cheer up residents and give out presents. While he did not feel ill at the time of the visit he later tested positive and is believed to be a super-spreader.

Authorities condemned the care home’s management as “totally irresponsible” after photographs emerged of the event showing St Nicholas failing to social distance from residents who were also not wearing masks.

A wake up call for everyone - social distancing, handwashing, and masks are still needed.
