Pharmac has advised that there has been an increase in the number of supply chain issues that suppliers are faced with this year. In most cases, COVID-19 has been the cause of this impact on medicine and medical device supply chains. COVID-19 is likely to continue to have global impacts on medicine manufacturing and supply chains for the remainder of 2020 and beyond.
"We are aware that some shipments of medicines and medical devices have experienced delays via sea freight, but in most cases, alternative routes such as air freight can be utilised to ensure a continuous supply," said Lisa Williams, Pharmac's director of operations.
"We are working closely with our suppliers as they continue to manage production and transportation issues caused by COVID-19, and have published comprehensive information about supply issues on our website," said Williams.
