PPE Supplies Vital for Aged Care Sector

aged care ppe for nurses

Aged care homes across the country will continue to be in level 4 lockdown until Friday. The NZACA on Monday advised their more than 600 members to keep their doors closed to visitors. This is part of a wider health initiative to ensure residents and staff are better prepared than in the first wave of COVID-19.

Risks to this vulnerable group remain high while there is community transmission, so the supply of PPE is critical. Care facilities order supplies of PPE from DHBs and the national reserve, managed by the Ministry of Health, but some were getting resistance to their requests, and are concerned as they should have at least 14 days of supply. This should not be considered as stockpiling – just good management and planning.
