BALCONY HAPPY HOUR FOR RETIREMENT RESIDENTS

Residents at a Lower Hutt retirement village have been enjoying each other's company from a safe distance in the midst of the coronavirus lockdown.

Cabinet minister Andrew Little shared a video on social media showing residents of the Bob Scott Retirement Village enjoying a drink and socialising from their balconies during their weekly happy hour.

The footage was taken by Little’s former executive assistant, credited as Shona, who lives at the facility with her husband. Rhyman Healthcare spokesman David King said the footage was shot last Friday during happy hour at the independent apartments wing.

“See how the residents are uniting, while maintaining social distancing to protect each other. Next week they’re having a fancy dress balcony party! Self-isolation isn’t social isolation, whatever your age,” Little wrote on the Instagram post.
