Researchers in Buffalo, New York developed a set of 3D-printed dentures which have the potential to deliver specific treatments to support patients.

The dentures can treat fungal infections that plague many people who wear artificial replacements for teeth and gums. Whilst antiseptic mouthwashes are available, the innovative dentures are filled with anti-fungal medication, meaning they do not need to be removed in order to treat them.

Specifically, researches filled the 3D-printed dentures with microscopic capsules of the anti-fungal medication Amphotericin B in order to better support oral health of patients who are highly susceptible to infection.
