Heritage Acquires NZACS Care Homes and Villages

NEW ZEALAND | Heritage Lifecare has announced the acquisition of New Zealand Aged Care Services (NZACS), adding 15 care homes and eight retirement villages to its portfolio. The acquisition brings its combined network to 55 care homes and 28 retirement villages across New Zealand.

The company said the acquisition made Heritage New Zealand’s second-largest aged care provider and its largest provider of high-acuity care. NZACS adds 926 care beds and 147 village units, strengthening Heritage’s presence across the North Island and bringing two NZACS sites in Dunedin into the organisation.

NZACS’s workforce and broader support functions will also join Heritage. Heritage Lifecare chief executive Brent Pattison said the organisations had complementary strengths and a shared commitment to care for older New Zealanders.

“Together, we will be a stronger organisation,” said Pattison.

“NZACS's experience in dementia and high-acuity care complements our existing portfolio and enhances our ability to care for more older New Zealanders with increasingly complex needs.”

With the backing of shareholder Adamantem Capital, Heritage had grown from 10 homes in 2017 to 40 care homes and 20 villages before the acquisition. Pattison said the company’s experience of bringing homes and villages into its network would support the transition.

“Our experienced people, established systems and support platform mean we understand what it takes to bring new homes, villages and teams into Heritage while supporting people throughout the transition.”

NZACS managing director Peter Leathem said Heritage shared its commitment to residents and employees. He expressed confidence in Heritage’s ability to support NZACS and its communities into the future.

“We are proud of what our people have built and the care they provide everyday.”

For residents, families, and employees, Heritage said the transition would focus on continuity, clear communication, and support.

“Care and services will continue, and we will work closely with residents, families and employees to keep them informed and supported as we bring our communities together,” said Pattison.
