AUSTRALIA | More funding has become available for rural and remote support at home workers, providing essential services across the country.
The Australian Government is delivering more funding to aged care providers in rural and remote areas to ensure older Australians can access the in-home care services they need, wherever they live.
Today, more than 380,000 older Australians have access to an ongoing Support at Home place, more than ever before. To help support this record demand for aged care services, the Government is opening applications for a third round of the Support at Home Thin Markets Grants.
These grants unlock over AUD 300 million for eligible Support at Home providers to help them continue to deliver vital services to our loved ones.
In addition to supporting rural and remote providers, the grants will also support providers delivering specialised aged care services and services to older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Providers may be eligible to apply if they are delivering:
- rural and remote services in Modified Monash areas 3 to 7
- specialised services in any region, or
- culturally responsive services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Aged Care Minister Sam Rae said this thin markets grant round is yet another milestone in the Albanese Labor Government’s work to rebuild and reform the aged care sector as well as enhancing the financial viability of providers.
“Support at Home is now operating at record levels. By the end of the next financial year, 420,000 older Australians will have a place in the system, almost three times as many with a Home Care Package in 2020,” he said.
“After a decade of neglect under the Liberals, grants like these are helping more care to be delivered into communities and support providers in thin markets to deliver the care our loved ones deserve.”
