AUSTRALIA | An Australian family business has set the benchmark for aged care meals, winning in the Family Business Excellence Awards.
The Family Business Excellence Awards celebrated its most outstanding contributors at the 2026 Family Business Conference: Asia-Pacific in Hobart, hosted by the Family Business Association.
The Established Family Business Award is given to those who display tangible efforts in succession planning, ensuring continuity and longevity by empowering others around them to make decisions.
Contemporary Catering was given this honour last night due to their 33 years of service, setting new benchmarks in culinary innovation and service excellence. Focused on the aged-care sector, the organisation has expanded into serving other areas with its high-calibre team focused on delivering excellent food based on fresh ingredients.
“We are extremely humbled and honoured to receive this award tonight and I think it's an incredible show of support for the work that we do, and real validation for our team that we really try our hardest to put out the best meals each and every day,” said Steven Shankly, Finance Controller, Contemporary Catering.
“Mum and Dad have put in so many hard yards over the years and I have nothing but admiration for what they've built over the last 30 to 40 years. Myself and all our staff are just hoping to build upon their legacy and continue to provide the best service that we can.”
In Australia, family businesses make up 70 percent of businesses and employ 50 percent of the workforce.
The sector is strong in Australia, shaping the economic and social landscape, contributing to regional growth, driving industry innovation and long‑term employment. The ability to evolve while staying true to their values is a defining strength of the sector.
Catherine Sayer, CEO of Family Business Association, said the awards highlight the exceptional leadership and contribution of family‑run organisations.
“Family businesses are central to Australia’s economic strength and community identity,” said Sayer.
“These awards honour the vision, resilience and commitment that family business leaders bring to their work every day. Their impact is significant and deserves recognition.”
