Australia | Deadline for Jabs Passed

The mandated deadline passed overnight for Victorian residential aged care workers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The state has more than 17000 active cases, but the rate of new infections has eased back over the weekend, 407 people have died in the state during the current Delta outbreak. Those who died were aged in their 60s, 70s, and 90s.

There are currently 405 people in hospital with Covid-19 in Victoria, 77 are in intensive care and 51 are on a ventilator. Across Victoria, 87 percent of people aged 12+ are double vaccinated.

Though there have been sometimes violent protests particularly among construction workers over the controversial no jab no job mandates there are still approximately one million of Victoria's essential workers in total that need to be fully vaccinated by November 26 with only those with a valid medical exemption able to continue working.
