Following the cabinet meeting on 28 June 2021, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that COVID-19 vaccinations would become mandatory for residential aged care workers. It will be a condition of working in any residential aged care facility, and workers will need to receive at least the first vaccination dose by mid-September.

At this time, the mandate only applies to the aged care sector, however, the National Cabinet is expecting to receive further advice about mandatory vaccinations for disability care workers.
