Recent COVID Case Visited Waikato Aged Care Facility

Director of Health, Dr Bloomfield has announced that one of the Kiwis who recently tested positive for COVID-19, part of the cluster which forced Auckland into Alert Level 3 and the rest of the country into Alert Level 2, visited an aged care facility in Waikato.

Bloomfield noted that the person visited a family member and had contact with some of the facility’s staff. Anyone who visited the facility at this time will be notified. Bloomfield assured that once all family and friends of the facility’s residents and those who had visited were notified he will name the facility.

The person was asymptomatic when they visited the facility but began showing symptoms the next day. One person from the facility had already been tested and returned a negative test.

Bloomfield also announced that the DHB is working with aged care facilities to provide them with appropriate PPE gear.
