THE WAY OF THE FUTURE

Driverless buses carrying senior citizens around in rural areas of Japan could soon be normality. Trials have begun in which six-seater shuttles operate to get those who don’t have the ability or access to travel around. Should it go successfully, the Japanese government would look to transform existing rest stops into hubs where senior citizens can find a ride to shopping centres, medical services and banking outlets.
